Good morning on a hump day: Wednesday, November 4, 2020. This is late because I just got into work (I pride myself on not missing work). Today’s Hili dialogue will be a short one, for I was out all day yesterday and didn’t get to prepare it (I do most of it the preparation the day before). You’ll have to be satisfied with Miss Hili and some stats, but I’ll put up a post about the election and my surgery soon. Remember, this short format is how the Hili dialogues began: there was just a dialogue, and then things got out of control. (I’lll resume the usual format tomorrow.)
News of the Day: The news is, of course, the unresolved election, which I’ll post about next so you all can kvetch and worry, as I am doing. I’m far more concerned about the election than my belly pain, which is minimal anyway. The possibility of four more years of Trump causes far more pain, but I still think Biden will win. More soon.
Finally, today’s reported Covid-19 death toll in the U.S. is 232,607, a big increase of about 1,200 from yesterday’s figure. The world death toll is 1,222,759 1,212,500, another big increase of about 10,300 over yesterday’s report.
Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, Hili doesn’t want to get up until breakfast:

I wish you a speedy recovery. I know you already had this done once before. I had a hernia repaired two years ago so I know what it’s like.
I am sick with dread about what will happen now. The President has declared victory and decried attempted fraud while he doesn’t even have a plurality of electoral votes, let alone enough to clear the hurdle. Are we the United States or Belarus? I’m also confident that the result will show Biden as the winner, but following these moves it will not be accepted so easily. There will be some who will never accept it. 2000 seemed bad at the time. That dragged on until mid December. I expect this to drag on as long as that, and every day the rhetoric will be worse.

Welcome back. I wish you had something better to greet you after anesthesia. Things don’t look good. I’m now in the process of curbing my optimism about human nature and girding myself for four years of ignoring the news and focusing on domestic affairs around the ranch. I have some firewood to chop and some reading to do. I’m bracing for a long isolation, looking forward to maintaining my health and enjoying nature. Biden’s lead in the polls evaporated like dandelion fluff in the wind. What more can you do?
Optimism about human nature is, unfortunately, rarely warranted. At least, that’s my take on things.
