The new Jesus and Mo strip, called “very”, came with this email message: “Jesus, stung by Mo’s mockery of the gospels, has a go at the Koran.” The cartoon reminds me of Joseph’s Smith’s “revelation”, later promulgated by Brigham Young, that allowed Mormon polygamy, which both Smith and Young availed themselves of amply. But of course that was not just reserved for Smith, but was also a way to grow the faith.

O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to remain for conversation. So it goes. And Jesus had his expensive ointment. . .
Of course Mo doesn’t make the rules. He’s just obediently applying them with as much “fidelity” possible by a mere servant of Allah. As Dana Carvey’s “Church Chat” hostess might say, ” How conveeeenient! “.

You can almost see the wheels turning in the minds of the authors of religious texts. It’s as if, after having written a bunch of sh*t that establishes authority over many aspects of life, they suddenly see they can add it a few special favors for themselves. This is what little kids do when they negotiate with their parents. As if we would never notice!
