It can’t be a picnic living with an otter, but these people have two of them: Kotaro and Hana. I don’t know how these people got Asian Small-Clawed Otters (Aonyx cinareus), but so be it. At least they’re litter-trained and get really fancy food, as you can see from this video.

Kotaro: Male, DOB 11/10/2017 Kotaro has a scar on his tail from being bitten by another otter when he was still a baby.
Hana: Female, DOB 11/24/2018.
They have been toilet trained; they use a special pad that is designed for small dogs.

Shouldn’t they be in the water? Is this even legal?
It is a mistake to think they live in water – they use water for hunting but they cannot stay there all the time. Sea otters spend way more time in the water. Both have to take extra care of their fur though, & freshwater otters would probably die if they were not able to come out of the water as they would get waterlogged.
Of course I was not saying they need to be in the water all the time but I assume that is where they get their food. Is there a living room otter as well?

My mouth went dry watching sashimi get eaten with no soy sauce.
Interesting that they don’t seem to worry about sharing food as much as cats do. Our cats are very conscious of which one is supposed to eat from which plate. Stealing from the other’s plate happens, of course, but they know when they’re doing it. These otters seem not to care.
Don’t let Honey see this, boss; she’ll expect tins of Beluga from Dean & DeLuca.
