Maybe there should be a corollary to Clarke’s third law: any sufficiently jejune theology is indistinguishable from stupidity.
I’ll stick with Forrest Gump on this one. Stupid is as stupid does. (I use the analogous definition for racism, too – apropos of some other topics. )

It’s like Steven Weinberg said, for good, well-meaning people to do evil on a large scale takes religion (or, I would amend, its equivalent). Or, as Sam Harris always says, it’s not bad people that are the biggest problem, it’s bad ideas.
