Jesus ‘n’ Mo ‘n’ whitewashing

August 12, 2020 • 9:30 am

The good news is that my 20 year old car, with only 73,000 miles on it, passed the emissions test with flying colors. Back to business:

This week’s Jesus and Mo strip (soon to be banned in Pakistan) came with a frustrated note:

Phew. Nearly didn’t make it this week. The new WordPress update completely wrecked the site and I had to perform emergency surgery. It was a close thing. I may have to make some fundamental changes around here. Has anyone had any experience with ClassicPress?

Well, I don’t know about ClassicPress but I do use WordPress Classic and every once in a while it changes without telling us. Not good business!

At any rate, this week’s strip is called “norm”. And although puberty can begin before 9 in girls, we have no idea if Aisha had attained this “norm” when the Prophet bedded her. (According to the hadith, Aisha married Mo when she was six.) And of course the whitewashing of the Prophet’s having sex with a nine year old has been going on for a while (see this pathetic piece in the Guardian for an example).

  1. “… passed the emissions test with flying colors“

Ermmm – I’m not sure there should be anything but transparent colorless gasses – including water – coming out of there..

    (I kid I kid!)

  2. I was listening to Sam Harris who interviewed a journalist who investigates child porn, which is a euphemism for child rape on camera. It was so horrifying I couldn’t listen to more than 10 minutes of the interview. I was just about to gag so I cut it off. They report that millions of children are raped on camera. There just isn’t enough law enforcement to make a dent in it. As if the nightly news wasn’t depressing enough. As we see above, it’s been going on for centuries.

  3. “I don’t know why God didn’t stop you.”

That statement could be applied to so many people through the ages. The obvious answer is there is no God to do the stopping.

  4. This kind of metaphysical logical calisthenics are very popular with the “Faaaiiith Community” in both its Christian and Islamic traditions.

The Guardian article was startling, I’ll say that. Where does one start, even?

I’m too exhausted by this intellectually embarrassing nonsense and dangerous stupidity to argue it now, but I think Hitch said it straight: “Religion poisons everything.”
    Ummmm Amen!
    D.

  5. According to Geza Vermes’ book on the nativity Mary, as presented in the gospels, would have been about 12 when God knocked her up. The almighty seems to like em young.

  6. Dr. Coyne, you should trade in your 20 year old car for a Tesla Model 3 before you waste another penny on oil changes and all the myriad things that are going wrong with your car. The difference in safety, performance, comfort, and convenience between a Tesla and any 20 year old car no matter how much it cost when new is as striking as the transition from horse-drawn carriages to the Model T was at the time. Not only that, but the cost of ownership is such that after about 5 years (depending on how much you drive) the difference in price between that and a “normal” gasoline powered car will be paid for in savings on gasoline and oil changes.
