Did you see it? It’s there, hiding in plain sight. A venomous copperhead snake (Agkistrodon contortrix). Take another look, see if you can spot the little guy.

Found it, with a magnifying glass, and now I can’t lose it. It really sticks out once you see it.

this one hits home for me. my jack russell was bitten by one of these on Saturday (she’s doing ok now, but has a long recovery ahead). it makes my search of the back yard seem pretty silly, as i still have not found the one in this pic.
I was thinking I wouldn’t want to walk there with bare feet. I’m sure the bite would not be a pleasant experience.
Found it. The coloration is different than the ones where I grew up in central Texas, so it took me a lot longer to spot than I expected. I remember being about 8 years old and visiting my uncle Chuck and aunt Pearl. They owned a 300 acre cattle ranch. I would ride around in the pickup with my uncle Chuck while he went round hunting snakes. Saw plenty of rattlers and copperheads back then.
Uncle Chuck and aunt Pearl were old country folk who grew up during the depression so nothing went to waste. We ate the snakes (tasted like greasy, gamey chicken) and sold the skins, heads and rattles.
