Outside Heisenberg’s uncertainty, the laws are followed at CERN. The problem is that we don’t know what the laws are.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

But the uncertainty principle *is* a law, it just happens to be statistical.
(This sort of law is not found in the laws of a society. “You may turn left if you roll 1 on the government sanction die.”)
I was actually pondering Heisenberg after last night’s third beer (down-manned to shore for bedspace – it beats working for a living!) and thinking that it might provide a limitation to the “many worlds” hypothesis.
In theory (if I understand it correctly), every event in the universe potentially spawns two daughter universes, one in which the quantum cat landed on her feet with dignity, and the other in which the quantum cat landed pretending dignity. But … if the events were indistinguishable (Heisenberg-ily) at a certain distance, after a certain time, would the universe “know” that a potentially universe-splitting event had taken place?
Obviously, I was informed by … Oh yes, Ben Goren flagging some work on the evolution of the geomagnetic field, where the detectability of events at both distance and time from the event were a critical element. So – Ben’s Beer Debt += 1
Unfortunately, since we are all familiar with the Greater Muphry Principle – that the perversity of the universe tends to a maximum – then the relevant length and time scales are probably both named for Monsieur Planck, and both rather short.
But it is an interesting speculation. Maybe not infinite numbers of universes, just large numbers of them.
A bitch-slap for a creationist : “Your effects will eventually decay to less than a Planck length deflection in a neutrino’s path!”

I am of course looking for an effect or a limit in the same sense that the universe “doesn’t notice” violations of the Conservation of Mass-Energy if you (or your Feynmann diagram) create a virtual particle, the product of whose mass-energy and it’s duration is less than (an expression involving h).
I am not a physicist, and I shall retire under a rock. And put rocks into socks. For self-defence.
But I’ll keep the bitch-slap for creationists. Cat-person though I am, I’d have to be very hard put to use a dog, male or female, for pummelling creationists. Even in jest.

CERN allows alcohol. DOE facilities in America do not. That’s culturally random.
I read the other day that something like 2 Trillion dollars of corporate money is off shore primarily to avoid taxes. So much for lower/higher taxes doing anything with this going on.
And yet, tax revenues do increase.
Donald Trump sez he will an end to this. How? He just will. Boom, badda badda boom. Done.
Very much doubt he will but it should and could certainly be done. I believe they say Apple is the biggest abuser of this practice but many do it. Must be sure to open some accounts in the Cayman Islands. Tax losses on this little trick are something like 60 Billion. Isn’t capitalism great.
Capitolism is great. But so are the social services provided by taxes. So if one hears a conservative decrying gov’t regulated health care as socialized medicine one can rebut that by pointing out all the socialized roads they don’t mind driving on, and the socialized sidewalks and street lights.
Yeah. I think capitalism will only survive if the wealthy (capitalist) add their share to the system and the masses are allowed to make a credible living. Have not been doing this now for at least 35 to 40 years and it shows badly. Likely why so many in this system have jumped on the religion train to nowhere.
I thought that would end up on WEIT.
