Jesus ‘n’ Mo ‘n’ women bishops

July 16, 2014 • 5:11 am

Jesus and Mo discuss the new development in the Anglican Church: women are allowed to be bishops. This is a brilliant strip, and Mo’s last line is priceless.

Yes, the perennial question is why on earth women would want to be bishops? But as long as men want to, and can, then women should too.

p.s. Don’t forget to contribute to the artist’s coffers if you can spare as little as $1 per month. Surely it’s worth $12 per year to keep the sarcasm (and humor) flowing. You can contribute here.  He’s up to $800 per month, but that’s nothing compared to the Potato Salad Guy or Social Justice Warriors who make a lot more for contributing nothing.

  1. Old joke – I don’t know if it’s true – but allegedly the Egyptian driving test used to consist of driving 100 yards forward, then 100 yards in reverse.
Actually, considering what I’ve heard of the traffic in Cairo, that’s not so simple.

      1. Urggh. That is seriously un-encouraging. Not that we had any real plans to go to Egypt in the near future, what with the bad political situation and the fact I’d be eligible to dance the rope fandango, but this really hasn’t move it further up our visiting list.

  2. Yes, welcome to the early 20th Century C of E.

My only comment would be that it’s a shame they’ve VOLUNTEERED to not discriminate against women when it’s been illegal for other institutions to do so in the UK for many years.

Discrimination shouldn’t be a choice (for an institution)

And why would men want to be members of a club that didn’t let women be officers?

…there’re many answers, of course, but all admit of fear of women, which isn’t exactly the stereotypical portrait of manliness they claim to want to project….

    1. I grew up surrounded by older, Catholic woman and they pronounced proudly that it was shameful that places like the Anglican Church would allow women to be priests. I wonder what they think now. I am not sure it matters as they were or probably still are conditioned to think and live subordinately to men.

    1. I thought it refers to Tristram Shandy which I THOUGHT was the origin of the phrase cock-and-bull story, but it seems much older –

      OED Online says-
1624 R. Burton Anat. Melancholy (ed. 2) ii. ii. iv. 230 Some mens only delight is..to talke of a Cock and a Bull ouer a pot.
      &
“The early use of the phrase is parallel to that of the French coq-à-l’âne ; compare cockalane n.”
