. . . all sorts of musicians are weighing in on Gerry Goffin’s death. I didn’t know some of them even had Twi**er accounts. And the messages are saddening:
And she put up this:
Goffin and King’s second-best song. Can you recognize the other singers?
I got the impression (around the 50 second mark)that Carol was supposed to start the first verse and Aretha stepped on Carol’s part. After that, Carol never solos unlike all the other singers on the stage.
I wonder if anyone else sees it that way or if I’m misinterpreting that part of the video.
On the show “Pop-Up Video,” they said that Aretha originally didn’t plan to join in the song, so Carol was going to sing that bit. Aretha then had second thoughts and joined in–to Carol’s surprise. Later, Carol was gracious, saying “I wrote the song for people like Aretha to sing,” or something like that.
I noticed a miscue there at the start too. Not sure what was going on.
Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Shania Twain are the other singers.
Gloria Estevan was also fantastic in the White House tribute!
Love that last shot of Goffin & King together–now so bittersweet…
