If you’ll be in or near southeastern Wisconsin on this coming Sunday (instead of being on your way to New Orleans), you’ll want to visit the Dinosaur Discovery Museum in Kenosha (5608 Tenth Avenue, Kenosha, WI 53140, 262-653-4450) for their Darwin Day event.
Darwin Day
Sunday, February 10, 2013; 1-4pm
An international celebration of science and humanity recognizing the birthday of the father of evolutionary biology, Charles Darwin. Explore the discoveries and life of Charles Darwin, the man who first described biological evolution via natural selection. Learn about his research on natural selection, participate in discussions on evolution, and explore the Museum as an evolutionary biologist. Family crafts and hands-on fun throughout the afternoon.
Do you have a fossil or interesting rock you want to learn more about? Bring it in and have it looked at by a paleontologist.
My colleagues Drs. Chris Noto and Summer Ostrowski will be there, and I’m going to try to stop by. The Museum is home to the Carthage College Institute of Paleontology, headed by Dr. Thomas Carr.

I agree. Enough of tying evolution to some sort of “belief”. Guess in their haste to copy the Obama slogan, they didn’t think about that.
We should hear more about places like this and less about the Cretin [excuse me, CREATION] Museum!
From what I can tell, Obama is a gradualist as well. 🙂 Good things happen with him as president but oh-so-gradually…
Hi Jerry (and readers), I’m the creator of that Darwin image. I made it in 2009 around the time of the Darwin 200th birthday celebration. It’s been for sale on various merchandise on Zazzle for almost 4 years now. All of the profits have been (and continue to be) donated to the NCSE. So far this dumb little Shepard Fairey knock-off has raised $11,000 for NCSE. Yes, the slogan is not perfect but I could not pass up the opportunity to reference Obama’s 2008 “change we can believe in” campaign slogan.
Do be careful if you come to Kenosha on Sunday – freezing rain is predicted and the roads could be a mess.
Up here in Milwaukee it looks like we’re going to get no freezing rain. And Kenosha should be just rain by noon. So… Dinosaurs, here I come!
Birmingham University (UK) are marking Darwin Day with a seminar … about Erasmus. Srsly.

Having just returned from my visit to the Dinosaur Museum in Kenosha, I can report that it is a marvelous little gem of a museum. The Darwin Day festivities were going great, and I learned a great deal from Dr. Noto. And admission was free!
Do take the time to visit if you find yourself in the area.
