KittenQwest Contest

June 27, 2012 • 2:36 pm

An alert reader sent me this photo, which by my lights is the cutest kitten picture of all time.

If anyone can send or link to a cuter picture of a kitten than this, I’ll send them an autographed paperback of WEIT. Note: I will not be judging this contest, but if the judge deems no entry cuter than this, there will be no prize.  Only one picture per person; contest closes in a week.  I don’t have many copies of the book left, and will accompany the autograph with a hand-drawn cat.

Note: it doesn’t have to be your kitten!

Go!

  1. I’m speechless except to say, awwww.

On a side note though, why the hell do cats sleep in what looks like the most uncomfortable places when we bust our butts to give them soft cozy places?

    1. There’s just no understanding it. My cat Sarah usually chooses between 3 places: My desk chair, the bed (sometimes under the covers), or on her pad beneath the bookcase on my desk. Contrast with her, one of my previous cats, Zero. I could rub his belly ’til he dozed off, then slip him into a plastic grocery sack and then hang him on the nearby doorknob where he was quite comfortable and continued to sleep. Maybe some cats just like the “womb experience”.

      1. Sounds like a “bat tent”, which isn’t a Hollywood prop, but a type of mountaineering tent for “big wall” climbs. Single point of suspension, some internal poles to stop the user being bent and folded. We’re not cats after all.

        1. Nothing strange about that. Laundry smells just like a lap, warms up quickly, and doesn’t fidget.

          1. I don’t consider it strange, just highly catlike considering I had painstakingly set out freshly washed blankets for him all over the damned house.

    2. Because they can. The message is clear: we’ll sleep where we want to and when we want to. We are the overlords, and we are indifferent to your transparent wiles.

  2. “Yo, Alert Reader. I’m really happy for you, Imma let you finish but Beyonce had one of the cutest kitten pictures of all time. One of the cutest kitten pictures of all time!”

          1. Not a bad idea…hang on a minute while I go gra —

HEY! You’e trying to get me to destroy another laptop, aren’t you? It was bad enough when Baihu knocked over that glass water on the old one….

          1. Kink still does it! I’ve had 3 MBP’s since then and he still slouches on the keyboard.

MacBook Pro – built to support a 12-pound cute cat!

            Check him out at KinkTheCat.com

  3. When I saw the title of your posting…I thought, oh sure I have so many cute photos of me kittehs… I will win!! Then I scrolled down and I saw the dang picture. You’re right!!! They can’t much cuter than that.

      1. Well, I can’t help feeling there’s something fundamentally weird about tentacles! 🙂

      1. I don’t think so. We’re looking for the cutest kitteh photo of all time, no compromises.

I don’t think it’ll win – while it’s probably a better photo, all things considered, it’s not as cute. But it’s worth looking at anyway!

  4. I’m glad to see that WEIT followers have the good taste NOT to think putting clothes on animals makes them look cute, and do NOT think breeding cats to have squashed in faces makes them cute. Am I the only one to think that Cheezburger has gone to the dogs lately?

  5. I just think it’s funny that the kitten is peacefully sleeping near DVD’s/Games called “FEAR” and “PUNISHER.”

    LOL

  6. Uh, not sure whether my previous post made it through (I had to log in using gravatar, but I can’t see my post).

Here’s my entry: my sister’s two cats when they were young and cute:

The one on the left begging for teh hugz, Lana, is clearly the winner. Hardly fair for the competition, I know. Dei seez Lana beeing all cuets – dei hatin’

  7. I looked at all the pictures posted so far, and I have to tell you I am very sorry, but these are, hands down, the cutest kittens ever. However, they are wild cats (black-footed african cats), so I don’t know if that counts…

  8. Dr. Coyne,

I’m writing for several reasons. First of all, it’s my birthday. Yes, I’m trying to shamelessly abuse that. I’m turning 30, so I’m feeling slightly traumatized. 😉
Secondly, I’m hoping to enter the KittenQwest contest. Admittedly, I could possibly find a cuter kitten than this, but this is my boy, and while I’m biased, I think it’d be difficult to find one cuter than this: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm43/aegisfire/allegro/0616081422.jpg
His name is Allegro, and he’s adorable: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm43/aegisfire/allegro/0616081352a.jpg
The main reason I want to enter the contest is that my girlfriend would really LOVE a signed copy of the book, and I’m just shameless enough that I’m willing to pimp out my cute kitten to get her what she wants. Even if I can’t win the contest, I’m hoping there’s some way I can obtain a signed copy of the book for her, so please let me know what I can do in the oh-so-unlikely event that Allegro doesn’t win the prize for me. 😉

    Thanks,

    Daniel

  10. Hello!

We are an animal charity in London – The Mayhew Animal Home – which is experiencing the full force of kitten season at the moment. We are absolutely jam-packed with abandoned and neglected litters of kittens.

Here is a photo of one such kitten which we think is quite possibly the cutest thing to wander the earth. Little Pea, as she’s called, also happens to be a fan of our merchandise.

    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150987354207801&set=a.10150987175142801.448916.76933407800&type=3&theater

We’re keeping our fingers (and paws) crossed!

    1. Okay, anybody who adopts this kitten and can provide proof will get a free, autographed copy of WEIT, even if Little Pea doesn’t win. I know there are readers in London, and some must want a kitten as adorable as this one.

  11. Here is my entry:
    http://sterlingstarling.wordpress.com/2012/07/05/raise-your-paw-if-you-need-some-aww/

I base my contest entry on the first picture, but there are plenty of others there that will tickle you kitty-cuteness-bone.

Those photos represent my precious twin kitties–Castor and Pollux. (I’m pretty sure their names alone should win me something!) They look identical, but Pollux is a Manx (no tail), while his brother is “normal” (by outward appearances, anyway). They were rescued during a winter storm a few years ago. (The post has the full story if you’re interested.)

They’re also the “stars” of their own mini-movie! Check it out here: http://sterlingstarling.wordpress.com/2012/06/07/the-twins-help-make-the-bed/

    1. This link doesn’t appear to work; you need to set your Facebook security so everyone can see this picture. Alternatively, send it to me via private email.
