  1. My wonderful sister died of esophageal cancer in April 2011. As a witness to her battle, I can tell you with certainty, it is a very rough way to die. The chemo she took for a long time was a horrible mixture of three different regimens at the same time. One of them is called the red death. The chemo becomes worse than the cancer. The sick person is forced to choose to discontinue the chemo with full knowledge it means painful death in fairly short order. Thanks to the pharmaceutical industry for the excellent strong pain medication. Unable to get it down her throat, she ended up with patches and shots. Hitch wrote almost right until the end. He did it in terrible pain.

    1. I forgot to say – if you smoke, stop. If you suffer from heartburn, acid reflux or other indigestion, get treatment for it. I don’t care what Hitch said, the smoking and drinking are not worth it.
