Thanks to an kind and accommodating Wikipedia administrator, the awful picture that used to accompany my entry there has been replaced by a spiffy new one. Go have a look—for I think the photo accurately represents my persona. And get reacquainted with Dusty.
I haz a new picture

Wikipedia’s on a donation drive atm; I gave because I think it’s worth it. Give a little bit or give a lot — but give! It’s a great resource that deserves everyone’s support.
(I think Jerry was a kitteh in a former life 🙂 )
If you have the time to contribute content, we also accept your soul 😉
I see it doesn’t mention your Cell paper. For non-biologists, the idea of Jerry, a card-carrying evolutionary biologist, publishing in Cell, the highly-cited home of hard-nosed molecular biological papers, is a hoot.
PS Love that Dusty cat!
Yeah, it’s way out of date and I wish that some kind soul would update it. After all, Haught’s page was updated with our debate within a week after it occurred!
This is also in reply to the above mentioning of an “accommodating Wikipedia administrator”:
The great idea behind the Wikipedia philosophy is that, when it comes to creating pages, or updating (including pictures!), there is no concept of an administrator: everyone can do that: Wikipedia is for and BY everyone.
If you’d like to see things changed, and you don’t feel like doing it yourself, send me the changes and I’ll do it for you.
You can update it yourself, you know – anyone can edit.
Ah, too slow.
And THIS one could use some proof reading as well: http://www.edge.org/memberbio/jerry_coyne
They (edge.org) even accuse you of having a blog!
I corrected “blog”.
I love it!
I like that cat.
Rabbit! Must have tropical ancestors with such big lugs.
Very handsome.
Me too!
C’mON, the picture is captioned to indicate it is FIVE YEARS OLD — what are you hiding?
St. Coyne of Assisi.
THIS is your amazon.co.uk page for WEIT which includes a 3-min video where you demonstrate your ear-wiggling gene
Your amazon.co.uk & amazon.com author pages are very sparse indeed ~ needs work (as my teachers were fond of saying)
Anyway I’m leading up to showing you THIS Amazon author page for Steve Jones, the Welsh geneticist…
A rather interesting photo ~ I know it’s of a different, much younger & tattooed Steve Jones. I don’t know if it’s an error or Jones’ sardonic & barbed wit in action. I hope it’s the latter.
That is great!
Nobody seems to know when your birthday is. The reason I’m curious is that there’s about a 1/365 chance that you and I were born on the same day in 1949.
Soon if I recall… before the New Year?
I thought I got the impression from a previous post here that it was 12/29?
Dec. 30–soon! SEND PRESENTS! 🙂
Ha! I’m a month and a half older, Sonny.
Someone already updated your Wikipedia entry in response to this comment, but whoever it was forgot to also change the summary under your picture.
Ditto.
’49 was a great vintage, apparently.
Jeez, how could I be so close but so wrong?!
I notice the have the “b” word splashed all over the Wikipedia entry…
You look remarkably well preserved -are you sure there is no painting in the attic?! Wish I had as much hair… 🙁
You probably do. Have you checked your ears? 🙂
I don’t see how that picture can accurately represent your persona when the boots are missing! It is an improvement on the last one however. Nice cat.
Exactly what I thought when I saw the picture.
Is Dusty a Russian Blue? What a gorgeous cat!
So nice to see that your picture is updated.. more so to see you so happy with this change 🙂 sharing your happiness 🙂 🙂 very cute cat.
Dr Coyne,
I am a teacher in Houston, Texas and I invite you to come to talk to my high school class anytime you are available!
