  1. Wikipedia’s on a donation drive atm; I gave because I think it’s worth it. Give a little bit or give a lot — but give! It’s a great resource that deserves everyone’s support.

    (I think Jerry was a kitteh in a former life 🙂 )

  2. I see it doesn’t mention your Cell paper. For non-biologists, the idea of Jerry, a card-carrying evolutionary biologist, publishing in Cell, the highly-cited home of hard-nosed molecular biological papers, is a hoot.

    PS Love that Dusty cat!

    1. Yeah, it’s way out of date and I wish that some kind soul would update it. After all, Haught’s page was updated with our debate within a week after it occurred!

      1. This is also in reply to the above mentioning of an “accommodating Wikipedia administrator”:
The great idea behind the Wikipedia philosophy is that, when it comes to creating pages, or updating (including pictures!), there is no concept of an administrator: everyone can do that: Wikipedia is for and BY everyone.
If you’d like to see things changed, and you don’t feel like doing it yourself, send me the changes and I’ll do it for you.

      2. And THIS one could use some proof reading as well: http://www.edge.org/memberbio/jerry_coyne

The main focus of his laboratory is on the original problem raised by Darwin the origin of species and on understanding this process through the genetic patterns it produces. He is also interested speciation, ecological and evolutionary genetics, particularly if they involve Drosophila.

        1. They (edge.org) even accuse you of having a blog!

He is the author (with H. Allen Orr) of Speciation, and the book and blog, Why Evolution is True

  3. THIS is your amazon.co.uk page for WEIT which includes a 3-min video where you demonstrate your ear-wiggling gene

Your amazon.co.uk & amazon.com author pages are very sparse indeed ~ needs work (as my teachers were fond of saying)

Anyway I’m leading up to showing you THIS Amazon author page for Steve Jones, the Welsh geneticist…

A rather interesting photo ~ I know it’s of a different, much younger & tattooed Steve Jones. I don’t know if it’s an error or Jones’ sardonic & barbed wit in action. I hope it’s the latter.

  4. Nobody seems to know when your birthday is. The reason I’m curious is that there’s about a 1/365 chance that you and I were born on the same day in 1949.

        1. Ha! I’m a month and a half older, Sonny.

Someone already updated your Wikipedia entry in response to this comment, but whoever it was forgot to also change the summary under your picture.

        2. Jeez, how could I be so close but so wrong?!

I notice the have the “b” word splashed all over the Wikipedia entry…

  5. You look remarkably well preserved -are you sure there is no painting in the attic?! Wish I had as much hair… 🙁

  6. I don’t see how that picture can accurately represent your persona when the boots are missing! It is an improvement on the last one however. Nice cat.

  7. So nice to see that your picture is updated.. more so to see you so happy with this change 🙂 sharing your happiness 🙂 🙂 very cute cat.

  8. Dr Coyne,

I am a teacher in Houston, Texas and I invite you to come to talk to my high school class anytime you are available!
