Houston: video of Dawkins award to Hitchens

October 25, 2011 • 4:22 pm

A good 30-minute video of Richard Dawkins giving his eponymous award to Christopher Hitchens at the Texas Freethought Convention, and Hitch’s response to the award, has finally become available. You can find the link here. Richard’s introduction is touching and funny; Hitch’s response, which he struggles against his illness to deliver, is deeply moving and inspiring.

Watch it, even if you saw my earlier post with an inferior video.

The text of Richard’s speech is also at the site, as well as a very short bonus video of Richard talking about how a child delivered to him a video from Ray Comfort.

May Ceiling Cat bless you, Hitch, for all your good works. Your courage empowers us all.

  1. Being dead is nothing but dying is tough. Your courage is inspiring. I will remember it when my time comes. You added so much to my life by sharing your wisdom. Thank you dear friend and teacher.

  2. Wow, wow, wow! If hero has any meaning, then Christopher deserves it. I am privileged to have been able to share time with him. As frail as he is, He still has it! and in full force.

  3. It is so sad to lose such a great mind. In these days when practically everyone else seems to live to be ninety it is particularly galling. Sigh …

  4. Hitch may still be here in Houston at MD Anderson. I got word he was still here a week ago. MD Anderson is about the best cancer hospital in the world, but it also has one of the highest patient death rates in the world. Tried to send a snail mail to Hitchens at Anderson ten days ago. No reply.

  5. I don’t feel sorry for Christopher Hitchens because of 2 reasons:

1.We will all die, the planet Earth will die(asteroid, our sun truning into red giant), our own galaxy will die(collision with Andromeda). Death is nothing special.

    2. He lived a completely fulfilled life, very few humans have accomplished and expressed themselves as much as he had.
