Every lab worth its salt has its own tee shirt, and I’m wearing mine for the first time. Sporting an endemic fly, it was designed by the mother of one of my undergraduates. The boots and booze are obvious; I haven’t mentioned my penchant for Hawaiian shirts and Cuban cigars.
Sartorial splendor for the scientist

I am just relieved that there is nary a cat in sight (ah-choo!).
That is a fairly awesome T-shirt. Give that mother a diploma.
More insects need Hawaiian shirts and Cuban cigars. (The booze would just be a bonus!)
Is that a ukulele?
What do endemic flies use for the strings on their ukuleles?
I’m sure there’s a pun waiting to happen here, but I can’t figure out where you’re going with this. Unless you really want to know about ukulele strings.
Indeed, the suspense is killing me.
Nice, the Hunter Thompson of fly genetics
“I’m a doctor of biology!”
Also, that thing looks sorta like Rango.
Open an on-line store at CafePress so I can order a shirt and a mug!
(It must be how I was raised but I thought that fly was holding a roach. My bad.)
You’re not the only one. Must’ve been my 70s Alaska upbringing.
Would’ve made a good Dead album cover…
🙂
I NEED one of those shirts. Ask them to sell them.
You’ve explained the boots, cigars, booze, and shirt, but not the guitar. Do you play? I mean, you’ve desribed your appreciation of music before. But I had never heard mention of you playing an instrument.
btw, I think Cuban cigars are overrated. I smoke Fuente’s, which are Dominican and better than any Cuban I’ve smoked.
Also, I prefer my cigar with a burbon on the rocks, not a martini.
All I can say is that I used to smoke the finest Fuentes (Opus X and the like), but they don’t hold a candle to a good, aged, vintage Cuban cigar. Like good wines, a good Cuban will improve over time. Some of the best I’ve had were produced in the 1950s, and they’re exquisite. BTW, no Cuban cigar made after 2002 is ageworthy.
Also, there are tons of fakes circulating in the US, in case you might have had some of those.
I think Daisy Fuentes is smokin’!
hmmmm…the only Cubans I’ve had were in Central and South America (Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador). They could very well have been fakes, and I know for a fact that some weren’t stored properly.
It’s quite possible that I’ve just never had a good one. Will continue the search, but am happy with my Fuentes in the interim.
I had a Cohiba last night that I purchased in 2007 (in Cuba). I find I prefer the Siglo I & II. I prefer a shorter smoke. I bought them in a cigar factory…
I also prefer to drink rum with them, preferably a dark.
I thought I’d share a t-shirt my wife got for me. She says that she thinks of it as belling the cat.
Liked the shirt a lot. Think of it more as “Truth in Advertising.” This is what I turn into when people ask me about my astrological sign. Do they really really want to know what I think of astrology? Most of the time… no, they don’t.
Sweet! A t-shirt and an official portrait.
So you’re kind of an Alan Shore type – or are you more of a Denny Crane.
So so awesome! Can alumna of the lab get one of these? Cause I want one too!!! Though I like the idea of a coffee mug best – put it on cafe press and I’m all over it. 🙂
Nice shirt.
I knew it! Hawaiian shirts, yay!
