I received this email from pinch-blogger Matthew Cobb:
I was idle, so I Googled these:
Google hits: 2 billion for “sex” and “food”. “Death” & “porn” = 900 million. ‘Life’ > 4 billion. “man” > 3 billion, “woman” = 900,000, “cat” = 2 billion! dog <900 million.
So the modal web page would be about a man who has a life and thinks about cats and sex and food…
Need I say more?
Dear sweet Jesus on a pogo stick — does this mean you really are Jesus on a pogo stick?
So…can I…like…maybe…fondle your intestines?
Not that I’m into that sort of thing, mind you — but I’ve got this side bet going with Blaise, see, and….
b&
What about cowboy (108M) boots (350M)?
Try this “bauble from the nerds at Google”
The Books Ngram Viewer allows you to plot the frequency of words and phrases that appeared in books published in the past few hundred years. Google estimates they’ve scanned and OCR’d more than 10 percent of all the books ever published, and this plotter is based on a sample of that data
He said “modal.”
Not “model.”
Big difference.
I’ll shut up now.
Teehee!
And Ben, your fondle your intestines fetish is reaching troubling proportions.
Among all of the possible combinations of man, life, cats, sex, and food, you picked a good one.
But – that can’t explain evolution!?
[Or in other words, maybe Google isn’t a modern oracle after all.]
Where are the petite coronas?
Randall Munroe from xkcd found out that beyond a certain number of hits, Google apparently says “screw it” and throws out a giant number. So this probably isn’t accurate. Sorry to rain on the fun.

Actually, according to its own statistics it says “get a life”. =D
“So the modal web page would be about a man who has a life and thinks about cats and sex and food…”
But then it’s essentially a blog.
So the modal web page would be about a man…
No, really?!
Or, of course, a woman talking about a man.
Well, what else would she be talking about?
Cats.
LOL!
OK, I’ll throw this into the mix. I Googled ‘Jesus’ and I got, 338,000,000 hits.
I meant to add that Jesus gets fewer hits than any of those except maybe ‘cowboy boots’ so why worry? 😉
Simultaneously?
Cat sex, not with a cat!
Going to page 6 of my “Cat” google search.
I get Oregons Center for Appropriate Transport.
Canadian American Transportation
Coalition for Appropriate Transportation
Caterpillar Inc’s (Nasdaq ? code CAT)
Doing the same thing with “dog” and going to page 6 of google search all the hit are still related to the canine.
So your cat > dog failz, soz.
