Why Evolution is True is a blog written by Jerry Coyne, centered on evolution and biology but also dealing with diverse topics like politics, culture, and cats.
Race relations were so different back then. This movie broke taboo after taboo in a way that everyone could get behind. Sure, it’s still hilarious, but unless you were a part of the culture of the time, you can never know how bold the whole thing was. I imagine historians have this problem all the time.
You certainly raise an excellent point, but I was referring more to the “morons” quote at the end than the “nigger” quote at the beginning.

I know you were after the “morons” bit. Your quote is certainly appropriate to the thread. I was just reminiscing about the movie, Ben. I like tangents; indulge me. Most of Brooks’ movies are funny, but this one really stands the test of time. I think it’s because it had something important to say.
I can understand her having another private account, that she can use for friends and family, but using it to comment on her official page is just stupid. Then again maybe she doesn’t run her official page
Sockpuppeting tends to be [treated as] SRS BZNS on the internet, with everyone involved cackling in delight when the puppeteer is outed. It’s typically interpreted as “this person is so pathetic and/or their point is so stupid that they don’t actually have real friends to stand up for them, they have to make fake accounts to pretend that their ridiculous ideas are actually popular.” The discovery that a politician may guilty of doing this (directly, not through a campaign, which of course all politicians do all the time) is amusing; the discovery that SARAH PALIN may be doing it is hilarious. It kind of shows both that she just exists to troll the real world and that she is so utterly clueless about internet culture that she doesn’t realise (presumably) that this has been done before and *always* ends badly for the puppeteer.

Her ridiculous ideas are already popular and so are the pages she was commenting on. (Assuming the alternate account in question is actually hers.) I’m really not seeing any sort of “sockpuppet” campaign out to deceive anyone or sway opinions. (That’s barring the possibility that the account belongs to someone else and they are trying to fool people into thinking they are Sarah Palin.)
I hope some aspiring author is collecting all these tidbits just in case she runs for President. The collection could be assembled into a multi-volume set titled “One Million Reasons Why Sarah Palin Can’t be President.”
Well, technically, Tom is a sockpuppet and Sarah is a puppeteer — it’s “Lou Sarah” who’s her puppet.
Either way, they’re both waaaaay too stinky for my tastes.

Someone get Chris Mooney to fact-check that story.
It’s the only way we’ll know for sure.
Snortle!
Ha!

The eternal recurrence of self-aggrandizement has reached critical mass.
Wasn’t there something in the bible about bearing false witness?
For biblical literalists, that doesn’t mean you can lie to non-bears.
No, but it’s all true I tell you.

Ha! Loved that movie at the time.
It’s well worth watching again…and again. It’s truly brilliant. I don’t think a single minute goes by without multiple quote-worthy lines.
For example, this particular minute is also apropos to the thread:

Then again, maybe she’s stupid.

Maybe.
Can she not be both stupid and incompetent ?
If Sarah Palin was a newspaper…
…it would be ink-free.
I was thinking more along the lines of …she would be on the bottom of a bird cage.
Why pick just one?
She could have actually told Katie Courac what she reads.

Aack.
Count me in as one who also fails to see what the big deal is. *shrug*

I agree with 386sx wholeheartedly.
(Sorry it’s me 386sx. Couldn’t resist. Sorry I’m an idiot too what can I say. Lol.)
